TORPEDO BAG COYOTE
Canadian Brass' Chris Coletti and Brandon Ridenour, John Hagstrom from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Earth Wind and Fire's Bobby Burns, Jr., John Mayer's Bryan Lipps, and Billy Joel's Carl FischerALL use the new Coyote from Torpedo Bags. These folks travel more than anybody, and they choose the Coyote!
The Patent Pending, American Made COYOTE™ is HERE! Lightest, Smallest, most Protective, most Durable, and most Versatile 2.5+ ever made.
Basic configuration is Tpt/Tpt/Pic.
Add a taller (interchangeable!) lid for computer capacity, which can also convert to hold a flugelhorn. Yes, you read that correct.
LIGHTEST-- A Fiberglass shell is simply much lighter than plastic. In fact, a COYOTE™ with three trumpets inside is just a touch heavier than an EMPTY competitor's 2.5 made from plastic. Many other brands are made from wood, which is also a very heavy way to make a case and not very durable. Each COYOTE™ box must be hand made (1 per day), unlike an injection mold, but it's worth it to your back.
The audio for Part I is down--we are working on it. Part II, below, is fine.
SMALLEST--the COYOTE™ looks like a double or even a big single trumpet case. We are able to do this by using multiple foam densities and innovative measurements. All other cases use either a real thick bulky layer of open cell foam that can collapse too much and jeopardize the horns; or, they use foam that is too dense, which doesn't allow for flexibility and puts too much tension on the horns. In the COYOTE™, the horns sit absolutely perfectly still, and are separated from the other horns by 1.125" five layer dividers. Yup--FIVE LAYERS! Closed cell foam, open cell foam, flexible plastic center, then open cell foam again, and a final outer layer of closed cell foam. The COYOTE™ foam system provides the compression and bounce of open cell foam, but adds the protective qualities of the stiffer closed cell foam. Additionally, we made this case about 1 inch longer than a normal case, which actually allowed us to shrink the sides by 1.5 inches! For these reasons, we can safely pack the horns in a smaller space.
Most PROTECTIVE--With no less than 13 custom fit foam pieces wrapped in soft fabric, quite simply, your horns can't move. And it's not that they are tight--watch the video. You'll see the horns pretty much "pop" into their custom sized slots. Perfectly. Safe. Sound.
Most VERSATILE--The basic COYOTE™ configuration is for a Bb, C, and pic, or something similar (that lid is called the COYOTE™"SNIP"). However, you can buy a 2nd taller lid that will hold a computer in addition to the three trumpets (called the COYOTE™"SNAP"). This same lid can also be configured to hold trumpet, FLUGELHORN, and pic, which is perfect for those broadway show gigs. Watch the video below for the swap demonstration. A third lid, the COYOTE™ "SNARL," will be available for the real big flugels like Kanstul and Conn Vintage One, and will hold a trumpet, a BIG Flugel, AND a computer. What is especially great about the COYOTE™ is that when you have different capacity requirements, you don't have to worry about forgetting an essential piece of gear when you switch cases. Here, you just switch the lid, and your mouthpiece and valve oil don't have to be transferred. Plus, a lid costs much less than another case, and you can add each lid as your budget allows!
Most DURABLE--Custom made stainless steel rivets from Wisconsin for added shear strength. REAL Velcro® brand fabric to hold the 13 foam blocks (unlike other cases with blocks, you can readjust these endlessly, and doing so won't deplete the function of the fabric over time). Foam with density you'll notice. Rubber feet with steel cores instead of plastic feet (more table grip, and they'll never fall off). American made snaps backed with leather squares so they'll never pull out. BIG #10 Vislan YKK Zippers. Rubber backed no-slip 2 inch shoulder strap with steel clips. In fact, with every component and in all aspects of design, we chose the most durable and highest quality item available.
GREEN and LOCAL. Nearly all of the components are made in the USA, and most of them are made in Minnesota and Wisconsin***. There are no far flung travel routes across seas to get these guys here. American labor, American quality, American pride. Just call us old school.
When comparing the COYOTE™ to the big flight cases, remember this: Ours is lighter and the interior is more protective. If checked, both the better made flight cases and the COYOTE™ will protect your horns from over-caffeinated baggage handlers. But, the COYOTE™ is small enough to bring on the airplane, even with the tall lid, while the flight cases MUST always be checked. Do you really want $10,000+ in trumpets and your computer to miss your connection and then sit overnight in St. Louis while you're in Chicago? Get the COYOTE™. Seriously. Luggage gets lost all the time. Lost luggage sits on airport turnstiles for hours before they are pulled aside. The COYOTE™ goes where you go. Dimensions are listed at the bottom of this page.

**"Snarl" lids hold big Flugels like Kanstul and Conn Vintage One, and smaller (Benge).
We will add Flugel Brands to this list as we learn which brands fit which lids.
***Minnesota: All Sewing and related labor, fiberglass box, all foam cuts, leather from local cows, and many of the components come from MN suppliers.
Wisconsin: Some interior fabric, rivets, washers, plastic tooling.
Indiana: Velcro
fabric, snaps.
Some of the small components such as the feet and
handle we source from US suppliers, but couldn't verify their origin of manufacture. They may be USA, they may not be USA. We tried!
All airlines have different size requirements. A general rule that is fairly consistent is not to exceed 45 linear inches, which most triple cases do. Even though the manufacturers/dealers of other brands say theirs are fine for airline carry-on, they aren't technically. The Snip (short) lid for t/t/p is 44 linear inches--generally fine. The Snap lid is 45+, which could be troublesome IF they measured it. However, I fly a lot, and I have never seen any luggage actually get measured. I took this case on three flights recently, all in small planes, and had no trouble bringing it on and fitting it overhead. Some hints: Don't ask if it is small enough to bring on board, just bring it on. Wear it over your shoulder out of view of the steward taking your ticket. Don't have another carry-on bag with you. Be polite and smile no matter what, and explain the value of what's inside. We're iincluding a copy of the American Federation of Musicians letter with each Coyote, which explains the US Congressional guidelines for allowing instruments to be brought on board aircraft.
